Valpo Falls to Eastern Michigan

The Valparaiso volleyball team dropped a four game match to Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon 30-24, 22-30, 30-17, 30-25 in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Elissa Malthaner (Brighton, Mich./Brighton H.S.) and Heather Hynds (Sylvan Lake, Ill/Mundelein H.S.) led the Crusaders with 11 kills each, while Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) added eight. Hynds hit a team high .355 for the match and led the Brown and Gold with four blocks.

Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) led the Crusaders with 20 digs, while Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) added 13 and 39 asssists.

Katie Wagenmaker and Emily Busch led Eastern Michigan with 20 kills each, while Bree Hickman added 17 more. Busch hit a match high .474 on 38 attempts.

Hickman led the Eagles with 19 digs, while Lauren Viney added 18, as Eastern Michigan outdug Valpo 93-70 for the match.

The hosts also tallied 81 kills to Valpo's 50, and outhit the Crusaders .283-.176. Valpo did hold a 7-6 advantage on blocks.

Valparaiso (14-8) will return to action on Tuesday evening when the Crusaders host IPFW at the Athletics-Recreation Center. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
