Quarterfinal Tournament Match Cancelled; Valpo Volleyball Season Comes to a Close

The Missouri Valley Conference has cancelled the second quarterfinal match of the 2021 MVC Volleyball Tournament due to a positive COVID-19 test result (and subsequent contract tracing) among Valparaiso's Tier I personnel, which consists of student-athletes, coaches, managers and staff.  As a result, Bradley — Valpo's scheduled opponent — will advance to Friday's semifinals and will play Illinois State.

MVC athletically-related activities will take place only to the extent permitted by local environments and applicable national, state, local and institutional guidelines in order to safeguard the health and safety of participants, staff and fans.

“We are extremely disappointed that we were unable to participate in the tournament this weekend,” head coach Carin Avery said. “I am so proud of all the sacrifices this team has made all season to get to this point. We understand that the safety of our student-athletes and the other teams’ student-athletes is the main priority. While it is unfortunate that our season ends this way, this does nothing to take away from how proud we are of the amazing season we had.”

Valpo concludes the spring 2021 season with an 11-9 overall record and went 10-8 in MVC play, finishing in the top half of the Valley standings for the fourth time in as many years in the conference.
