Valparaiso University junior cross country runner Elizabeth Whiting (Parma, Mich./Western H.S.) has been named Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after an impressive opening meet.

Whiting was the champion of the Crusader Invitational breaking the school's 6K record with a time of 22:54. She had previously set the record in 2000. Whiting won the race by 24 seconds, helping lead the Crusaders to a second place team finish.

Valpo will return to action on Sept. 20 when the Brown and Gold travel to the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships held in Bloomington, Ind.
