The 2009 campaign came to an end for the Valparaiso men’s cross country team on Saturday morning, as the Crusaders placed 28th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bloomington, Ind.
The Crusaders finished Saturday with 901 points for their 28th place finish. Wisconsin took home top team honors with 62 points, while Ohio State’s Jeff See won the individual title.
Junior Joel Hartenberger (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia) paced the Crusaders on Saturday, covering the 10K course in 35:19.09, good for 166th place. Sophomore Jordan Piaskowy (Crete, Ill./Illiana Christian) was the next Valpo runner across the line, finishing in 172nd place with a time of 35:26.69.
Sophomore Nick Fagan (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) followed with a 190th place finish, crossing the line in 36:22.56. Senior David Carter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) concluded his career with a time of 36:34.35 over the 10K course, finishing in 192nd place, while sophomore Blane Bowen (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) rounded out the Crusader top-five runners with a 194th place showing, finishing the race in 36:53.37.
