Freshman Elijah Owen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) recorded three top-eight finishes at Saturday’s Eagle Invitational in Lisle, Ill. to pace the Valparaiso men’s track and field team.
Owen took fifth in both the high jump, clearing a season-best 6’ 2 ¾”, and the long jump (21’ ¾”). He also placed seventh in the javelin throw with a best distance of 147’ 4”.
Freshman Barrett Rehm (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) finished sixth in the pole vault (13’ 5”).
Freshman Chris Sosnowski (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) placed seventh in the discus throw (137’ 11”) and eighth in the hammer throw (145’ 10”). Both those marks are season-highs for him.
On the track, junior Michael Salguero placed sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.55, and sophomore David Rutkowski (Cedarburg, Wis./Living Word Lutheran) placed ninth (10:38.53).
Freshman Antwon Hatchett (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.54 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Kevin Adamik (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), Alex Ahlgrim (Manhatten, Ill./Lincoln Way Central), Chad Brooks (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) and Tyler Crum (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) finished in eighth place (3:29.78).
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 20 at the St. Norbert Invitational in DePere, Wis.
