Mullings Scores Five Points in Long Jump, Veloz Bonilla Qualifies for 800 Finals
Micah Mullings placed fourth in the long jump on Saturday.

The Valparaiso University track and field team continued competition at the Outdoor Missouri Valley Conference Championships, hosted by Illinois State in Bloomington, Ill. on Saturday. Freshman Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) scored points for the Beacon men in the long jump, while fifth-year senior Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R. / American Military Academy) qualified for Sunday’s final in the 800-meter run.

How It Happened

  • Mullings cleared a mark of 7.13 meters (23-4.75) in the long jump, earning a fourth-place finish in the event. That performance helped him earn five points in the team standings for the Brown & Gold.
  • Veloz Bonilla advanced to the final in the 800 thanks to a strong showing in Saturday’s prelims. He stopped the clock in 1:51.78, placing sixth of 23.
  • In the sprints, a pair of Beacons earned personal bests in the 100m prelims, with Lukas Sepulveda (Camano Island, Wash. / Stanwood) clocking in at 11.07 seconds and Marion Isaac (Evergreen Park, Ill. / Evergreen Park) completing that event on the women’s side in 13.12.
  • The shot put saw the team leader establish a personal best for both the men and women. Josh Leathers (Streamwood, Ill. / Streamwood) turned in a heave of 12.69 (41-7.75) to pace the men, while Amelia Tandy’s (New Albany, Ind. / New Albany) mark of 11.93m (39-1.75) led the women.
