The Michigan Wolverines used .237 hitting to defeat Valparaiso 30-25, 30-18, 28-30, 33-31 in the final game of the Michigan/Nike Challenge on Saturday evening in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) and Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) led the Brown and Gold with 12 kills each, while Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) added 11 kills. Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) added ten while hitting .438 for the Crusaders. Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) dished out 50 assists for Valpo.
Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) led Valpo defensively with 17 digs, while Hansen and Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) added 12 each.
Erin Moore led Michigan (8-3) with 19 kills and 13 digs, while adding eight blocks. Jennifer Gandolph added 18 kills and 18 digs, and Megan Bowman contributed 14 kills and hit .440 for the Wolverines.
Valpo hit just .158 for the match, but outdug Michigan 72-68 for the contest.
Valparaiso (11-4) will return to action on Tuesday evening when the Crusaders travel to Chicago for a 7 p.m. match at DePaul.
