Valparaiso's volleyball team ran its winning streak to nine in decisive fashion on Friday evening, defeating IUPUI 30-19, 30-17, 30-15 in a match that lasted just 1:18 at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
Valpo hit .306 for the contest, including .357 in the final game, while holding the Jaguars to .023 hitting on the night. The Crusaders amassed 49 kills in the victory, led by Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) who tallied 11 on her way to hitting .550 for the contest. Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill./Saint Francis H.S.) added ten kills for the Brown and Gold. Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) dished out 38 assists for the Crusaders while also serving up three aces.
Defensively, Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) recorded 18 digs while Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) registered six blocks and Jessie Fox (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.) added five more.
DeAnna Pflum led IUPUI (7-13, 2-2 Mid-Con) with seven kills while Michelle Sobocinski added six kills and 13 digs. Erin Jones picked up 18 digs on the night, while Tanna Smith dished out a team-high 22 assists.
Valpo recorded 11 blocks on the evening and recorded 64 digs to IUPUI's 50.
Valparaiso (15-3, 5-0 Mid-Con) will look to tie the school record with its tenth straight victory tomorrow evening as the Brown and Gold hosts Chicago State in a 7 p.m. match. The Crusaders won ten in a row September 29-October 21, 1995.
