Coach Freeman to Make Donation to American Cancer Society Against Notre Dame

Wednesday, November 17, 2004

Valparaiso University women's basketball coach Keith Freeman is looking for fans to help pack the Athletics-Recreation Center on November 30 to help lead the Crusaders to a win over Notre Dame and at the same time help the American Cancer Society win in the battle with cancer.

Freeman is pledging to donate $1,000 to the American Cancer Society if 3,000 fans attend the Valpo-Notre Dame game.

?Cancer has impacted our basketball family as both my mother, Phyllis, and Coach Caroline McCombs father, John, faced the sting of cancer at a young age in their life," Freeman said. ?We would like to use this game to increase funding for cancer research and education."

?We are so honored that Valpo is joining us in this fight against cancer," said Jenene Crowder, community development director, American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, Inc. ?Valpo is very involved with the American Cancer Society and we are looking forward to this area's first university Relay in April."

Valparaiso is the defending Mid-Continent Conference champion, while Notre Dame is ranked 10th in the country in the current rankings.

Tickets are available through the Valparaiso University Athletics Ticket Office located in the Athletics-Recreation Center, or by calling (219) 464-5233.
