Valpo women’s basketball senior Leah Earnest (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) was named an Academic All-District selection by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday for her work on the basketball court and in the classroom. Earnest was also chosen to advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.

Earnest was a Second Team All-MVC selection for the Beacons this season, becoming the first Valpo player since 1991-92 to pace the team in scoring, rebounding and assists. She ranked sixth in the Valley in scoring and eighth in rebounding, one of only four Valley players to rank in the top-eight of both categories. Earnest scored 494 points on the season, fifth-most in a single season in program history and second-most since 1994.

In the classroom, Earnest carries a 3.707 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major with minors in human biology and digital media. She was a Third Team MVC Scholar-Athlete selection this year and has earned Valpo Presidential Academic honors.

To be eligible to receive Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and have either played in 90% of the team’s games or started 66% of the team’s games.
