The University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee scored three times in the first half and Valparaiso could
not recover on Friday evening as the Panthers defeated the Crusaders 5-0 at
Engelmann Field in Milwaukee, Wis.
Sarah Hagen scored
the first of two goals on the evening at the 20:44 mark on a header off of a
cross from Keara Thompson to break the scoreless deadlock and Makenzie
Gillaspie added another header goal less than seven minutes later.
The Panthers took a
3-0 lead into the locker room following a goal from Thompson just before
halftime as Milwaukee outshot Valpo 11-4 in the opening 45 minutes.
Hagen added another
goal in the 61st minute and Megahan Elvington capped the scoring at
the 82:31 mark.
Milwaukee outshot
Valpo 21-5 on the evening, including an 11-1 edge on goal. Kristen
Manski (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) and Stefanie Matsas (Elmhurst, Ill./York H.S.) each made three saves
between the posts for the Crusaders, with each playing one half on the evening.
Leslie Deebach made
the only save for Milwaukee (7-4-2, 3-0 Horizon).
Valparaiso (5-6-3,
1-3) will remain in Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon to battle Green Bay. Kickoff is slated for noon.
