Valparaiso swept every match from Oakland on Saturday morning at Brown Courts to record a 7-0 non-conference victory over the Golden Grizzlies.
Valpo began by winning all three doubles matches. Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S.) teamed for an 8-4 win at the top spot, while Mara Sonkin (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South H.S.) and Patricia Arakaki (Campo Grande, Brazil/LaPorte H.S., Ind.) were 8-1 winners at second doubles. Jill Dierberg (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) and Charmane Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) finished the sweep of doubles with an 8-2 win.
In singles action, the Crusaders won all six matches in straight sets. Sonkin registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the top spot, while Danko won 6-2, 6-0 at second singles. Scala won easily 6-1, 6-0 at third singles and Dierberg recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win at the fourth spot. Arakaki cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five singles, while Stanislaw rounded out the action with a 6-1,6-0 victory.
The Crusaders have concluded their 2002 fall schedule, and will return to action in the spring.
