The Valpo women's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to UIC Wednesday morning at the XS Tennis and Education Foundation in Chicago.
The Flames recorded 6-0 wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles to clinch the opening point versus the Crusaders. Kat Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) were in the midst of a tight 4-2 match at No. 1 when play was suspended.
Melika LeBlanc provided UIC with a 2-0 edge after she defeated freshman Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4. Hebble fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 to Jackie Altansarnai before Heuer dropped a 6-3, 6-0 affair to Ann-Sophie Hahn at No. 2.
Morgan Paras (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) suffered a 6-0, 6-0 setback at No. 6 singles in her match versus Bianca Zuzu. Freshman Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) fell 6-3, 6-0 to Rachel Le Comber at No. 5. UIC's Oana Manole closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 result over Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton).
"The scores do not reflect how the matches went at all. We went to deuce so many times and made UIC fight for every point," head coach Tammy Cecchini said afterwards.
The Crusaders (1-10, 0-1 HL) continue a busy stretch of their schedule tomorrow. Valpo will host University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (5-6) on Thursday at the Courts of NWI before entertaining Northern Kentucky and Wright State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
