The Purdue Open held Friday and Saturday marked the first outdoor meet of the season for the Valparaiso women's track and field team.
Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) turned in a pair of top-four finishes in the throws for the Brown and Gold. She finished in third place in the hammer with a mark of 122'0" while placing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 38'1 ½". Teammate Katie Vogt (Hamburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley H.S.) was one spot behind Hagen in the hammer with a toss of 121'11".
Elsewhere in field events, Alicia McNair (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) earned a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 32'6 ½" and Jessica Cherrington (Roseburg, Ore./Umpqua Valley Christian) earned the same place in the javelin.
Amanda Meyer (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) was the meet's runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 16'8 ½", while Lynnae Skogerboe (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights H.S.) was in third 8 ¾" behind Meyer.
On the track, Elizabeth Whiting (Parma, Mich./Western H.S.) earned a runner-up finish in the 5000m run with a time of 18:27.15, while Amy Mikel (Lemont, Ill./Fenwick H.S.) placed fifth in the 1500m with a time of 5:07.83.
Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 59.79 seconds, while placing fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.96 seconds.
Valpo will return to the oval next Saturday with a meet at DePauw in Greencastle, Ind.
