Valpo softball junior Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27-March 5.

Hecker hit .667 and OPSed 1.528 over Valpo's three games spanning Saturday and Sunday, reaching base multiple times in each game out of the leadoff spot in the order and scoring the go-ahead run in both of Valpo's wins.

In the opener against Bellarmine on Saturday, she went 1-for-3 with a walk, singling and scoring a run in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie in Valpo's eventual 6-2 win. Later that day, Hecker went 3-for-4 against Eastern Illinois for her third career 3-hit game, doubling and scoring the decisive run in the third inning of the Beacons' 2-1 victory.

On Sunday versus EIU, she reached base in all four of her plate appearances to set a career high, as she singled twice, scored a run and stole a base. Hecker reached safely in each of her final seven plate appearances of the weekend.

Hecker is Valpo’s first offensive Player of the Week honoree since the program joined the MVC. Through three weekends of play, she is hitting a team-best .343 and ranks ninth in the Valley with a .477 on-base percentage.
