A trio of Valpo softball players received honors for their academic performance on Tuesday. Junior Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) earned MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention recognition, while she was joined by fellow juniors Emily Crompton (Salem, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) and Caitlyn Kowalski (Temperance, Mich./Notre Dame Academy) as the trio were recognized as Academic All-District honorees as College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) released its softball Academic All-District roll.
Hecker paced the Beacons in batting average, hits, doubles, RBIs and stolen bases this season. The March 7 MVC Player of the Week, Hecker also represented Valpo on the MVC All-Defensive Team as she tallied eight outfield assists on the year, most by a Valpo outfielder since 2015. In the classroom, Hecker boasts a 3.618 GPA as a nursing major.
Hecker was joined on the CSC Academic All-District roll by Crompton and Kowalski. Crompton owns a 3.707 GPA as a finance major, while Kowalski carries a 3.579 GPA as a business management major.
