The Valparaiso University bowling team registered two wins on the final day of action at the Bearcat Hammer Open Sunday, hosted by McKendree in Fairview Heights, Ill., finishing the tournament in 11th place.
How It Happened
- Valpo opened Sunday’s best-of-seven baker format bracket play against #RV Prairie View A&M, and after dropping the first game, dominated the rest of the match. Valpo bested Prairie View by at least 24 pins in each of the final four games, capping the 4-1 win with a 230 game in the finale.
- The win moved Valpo into a matchup with Kentucky Wesleyan. After falling behind 3-0, games of 209 and 244 advanced the match to a sixth game, but the Brown and Gold eventually fell 4-2.
- Valpo’s tournament finale came against Drury. Valpo won the first two games before Drury came back to win the next three games and go ahead 3-2. A 208 game evened the match and forced a decisive seventh game, which Valpo won 181-128 to take the match by a 4-3 final and claim 11th place.
Valpo (12-14) hosts the Crusader Challenge next weekend at Lynwood Bowl in Lynwood, Ill. The three-day event begins on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m.
