Bowling Finishes Out Music City Classic Sunday

The #19 Valpo bowling team closed out the regular season on Sunday with the final day of action at the Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn., finishing the tournament in 12th place.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened the day’s action — bracket play in the best-of-seven baker format — versus #9 Maryville. Maryville took the first three games before Valpo extended the match with a 212 in game four. Valpo again topped 200 in game five, posting a 203, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Saints used a 236 to close out their 4-1 win.
  • The loss moved Valpo into a matchup with #RV Jackson State in its next contest. JSU won game one, but Valpo evened the match with a 244 — its best single game of the day — and then rolled to wins in each of the next three games for a 4-1 victory.
  • Valpo was pitted against #11 Lincoln Memorial in the 11th-place matchup. After the two squads split the first two games, the Brown and Gold rolled a 199 in game three to take a 2-1 lead. But LMU took each of the next three games — winning each of the final two by slim two-pin margins — to finish the match, 4-2.

Next Up

Valpo (31-40) will have next weekend off from competition before heading to the 2021 Southland Bowling League Championship, which begins in New Orleans on Friday, March 19.
