Bowling Finishes Up Big Red Invitational Sunday

The #RV Valpo bowling team posted one of its top averages in a best-of-seven baker match in program history on Sunday as the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. came to a close.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened the final day of action against #20 UW-Whitewater. The Beacons dropped the first three games of the best-of-seven match before extending the match with a 193-186 win in game four. UWW earned a 213-204 win in game five, however, as Valpo fell 4-1.
  • Valpo closed the tournament by taking on #17 Central Missouri. The Beacons posted games of 226 and 224 to jump out to a 2-0 lead before the Jennies won the next two to even the match, 2-2. A 236 effort in game five put Valpo ahead, 3-2, but despite breaking 200 in each of their final two games, the Beacons were unable to earn the win, as UCM came out ahead 236-209 in game six and 259-208 in game seven.
  • Valpo’s 209.6 average in the final match of the tournament ranks sixth in program history for average in a best-of-seven baker match. It is the highest-ranking match on that list which went the full seven games.
  • Unlike most tournaments, this weekend’s tournament results were determined by scoring average over the duration of the three-day event. Valpo placed seventh out of 10 teams, averaging 201.0 for the weekend.
