The Buffalo Bulls scored the first four goals of the match and got a hat trick from Andrae Clarke en route to a 5-1 win over the Crusaders Sunday afternoon at Eastgate Field in Valparaiso, Ind.
Clarke scored in the 23rd and 29th minutes for the visitors, who led 3-0 at halftime. The senior finished the hat trick with the match's final tally, a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
For Valpo, it was their worst loss of the season, and marked the end of a three-match winning streak at home. The Brown and Gold lost for only the second time all season, surrendering a season-high number of goals.
Senior
Mark Wolka (Rochester Hills, Mich./Lutheran North) came off the bench to record the only Crusader goal in the 73rd minute. Wolka put home a great flick into the box from
Clifton Brown (Chillicohte, Ohio/Unioto) who received long pass from
Andrew Stewart (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson). The goal was the second of the year for Wolka who did not tally a single goal in his first three seasons at Valpo.
Buffalo (2-2-1) out-shot the Crusaders 18-11, including a 13-7 edge on goal.
Ryan Schwarz (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) made seven saves but suffered the loss. Daniel Bell made five stops for the Bulls and earned his second win of the year.
Valpo (4-2-0) will have five days to regroup before opening Mid-Continent Conference play Friday afternoon against Oral Roberts at 4:30 p.m. That match will be carried live on 95.1 FM, WVUR, and online at www.valpo.edu/athletics.
