Valparaiso University’s women’s tennis team will take on fourth-seeded Cleveland State at 12 p.m. CDT on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Horizon League Tennis Championships held at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Crusaders, the tournament’s ninth seed, fell 7-0 to the Vikings last Saturday, April 19, at Matchpoint Tennis Club in Griffith, Ind. Cleveland State (16-7, 5-3 Horizon League) swept all six singles matches and won at second and third doubles. Valpo’s (2-15, 0-8) first doubles team of Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) and Julie Wingstrom (Dallas Lake, Ind./Westlake H.S.) did post an 8-2 victory for the Brown and Gold.
The Valpo-Cleveland State winner will face the winner of fifth-seeded Youngstown State (7-15, 4-4) and eighth-seeded Green Bay (1-14, 1-6) in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 9 a.m. CDT. The losers of the two matches will meet in the consolation bracket, also at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
