After swimming in a quadrangular meet last weekend, Valparaiso’s men’s swim team returned to the pool on Friday evening for the Dennis Stark Relays, and finished in third place in the event hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

In the relay only invitational, the Crusaders scored 120 points, trailing champion Notre Dame (256) and Oakland (190).

The 200 freestyle relay started the meet and the team of Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.), Travis Simmons (Angola, Ind./Angola H.S.), Steve Booth (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.), and Chris Rudolf (Middletown, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.) posted a time of 1:35.16.

The 400 medley relay saw Alex Cox (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way H.S.), Alexander Harris (Columbus, Ind./North H.S.), Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.), and Thomas Patrick (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) finished in 3:56.27.

David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.), Wegehaupt, Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.), and Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) touched the wall in 7:21.82 in the 800 freestyle relay.

Fedde, Toshko Ganzorigt (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/Orchlon H.S.), Ian Jones (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington H.S.), and Simmons posted a mark of 1:51.94 in the 200 medley relay while Wegehaupt, Trimpe, Rudolf, and Patrick finished the 400 free relay in 3:26.47.

In addition to the five traditional relays, the event also featured races in the breaststroke, backstroke, individual medleys, and butterfly.

Due to scheduling changes, the Crusaders will not be competing at the Ball State Relay Invitational on Saturday, but instead returning to the water for their home opener next Saturday hosting Milwaukee.  The first race begins at 3 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
