Valparaiso freshman guard Lexus Williams (Chicago, Ill./Marist) was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week following a trio of double-figure scoring performances last week for the Crusaders.

In his first full week as a starter, Williams kicked off the week with a 10-point, four-assist effort in the Crusaders' win over UCF, hitting three of his four field goal attempts and committing just one turnover. Then, the freshman was on the floor for nearly the entire triple overtime game versus Mercer, scoring a career-best 15 points in 51 minutes of action.

One night later, Williams helped the Crusader cause in a victory over Cincinnati Christian, going 3-of-4 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the foul line for 11 points, while also pulling down a career-high eight rebounds and tallying four assists and three steals. On the week, the Chicago native averaged 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game on 63.2% shooting from the floor.

The award was the first weekly honor from the league office of Williams' career, while it is the third time in four weeks this season that Valpo has boasted the Horizon League Freshman of the Week. Williams and the rest of the Crusaders return to action Wednesday night at Ball State.
