Valpo Athletics Continues to Excel Academically

Valparaiso University student-athletes continued to take care of business in the classroom during the Fall 2022 semester, setting a department record for fall grade point average at 3.26.

Eight programs earned their highest ever fall term GPA, while nine garnered their highest fall cumulative GPA. Every program finished the fall with a 3.0 or better. Over 70 percent (247) of Valpo’s student-athletes earned a 3.0 or better during the term, and 46 of them recorded a perfect 4.0.

“Valparaiso University has wonderful academics, and I want to thank our faculty for the time they invest in all of our students including our student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Dr. Charles Small said. “We want our student-athletes to compete athletically, and we want them to compete academically. I am extremely proud of them for putting in the necessary time to achieve such academic success.”

The successful fall semester carries on a department tradition of academic excellence. In November, the NCAA released its latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data, and Valpo boasted an overall GSR of 93 percent for the current cohort, the program’s highest in 10 years. When the NCAA released its most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data in June, Valpo led the Missouri Valley Conference with eight programs achieving perfect APR scores of 1000.
