Zach Newcomer joined the staff in September 2016 to serve as the sports media relations graduate intern as he pursues a master’s degree in sports media from Valparaiso University.

While in this position, Zach will serve as the media contact for men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and men’s and women’s track and field. He will also assist the other members of the sports media relations department and help complete other tasks as assigned. 

Before coming to Valpo, he worked in the sports information department as an intern at Manchester University. While there, he filmed the weekly sports show, filmed home athletic events and managed the livestream equipment. Aside from that, he was a writer on the school’s newspaper, the Oak Leaves. One of his articles, written with another student, won a third-place finish for best sports page in the Newspaper Division 3 from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association. Newcomer also held sports correspondent jobs with the Goshen News and the Wabash Plain Dealer during his time at Manchester, covering local high school boys and girls basketball games.  

A native of New Paris, Ind., Newcomer earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Manchester University in 2016.
