The Valpo softball team dropped an 8-0 game in five innings via run rule at Murray State Saturday afternoon, as Racers pitcher Hannah James threw a perfect game.

How It Happened

• Starting pitcher Easton Seib (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) kept the Racers off the scoreboard in the first two innings, working around a one-out walk in the first and then inducing a popout to strand a runner at third in the second.
• Murray State broke through with three runs on five hits in the third, scoring the final two runs with two outs.
• Valpo was one strike away from getting out of the bottom of the fourth without the Racers adding to their lead, but Murray State eventually scored five runs for the final margin.
• The Beacons were set down in order in the fifth as James completed her perfect game.

Inside the Game

• Seib started and tossed the first three innings, allowing three runs.
• Freshman Cadence Augustine (Beaverton, Mich./Beaverton) and sophomore Kaiah Fenters (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) combined to throw the fourth inning, each registering a strikeout.
• The Beacons were errorless in the field for a second straight game, the first time they’ve had back-to-back games with zero errors since doing so in both ends of a doubleheader at Drake last season on April 23.
