Valpo senior outfielder Nolan Lodden received co-Horizon League Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Season accolades, as announced by the league office Thursday. Lodden, a First Team Academic All-American, carried a 3.949 grade-point average in the classroom. On the diamond, he led the Crusaders in batting average (.356), hits (83), runs scored (57), doubles (18), and walks (36).
13 Valparaiso University student-athletes earned spots on the Horizon League Spring Academic All-League teams, as announced by the league office today. The men’s track and field team had four honorees from the outdoor season, while the women’s squad had three honorees. Three baseball players earned Academic All-League accolades, while softball, men’s golf and men’s tennis each had one recipient apiece.
The Detroit Tigers selected Dalton Lundeen in the 30th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Saturday. Lundeen recorded career podium finishes in all three major pitching categories. His 347 1/3 innings pitched are a program record. His 22 wins tied him with John Grippi for the third-most in Valpo baseball history. Lundeen's 275 strikeouts also rank third in the program's long-standing tradition of pitching excellence.
Senior outfielder Nolan Lodden was elected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American First Team on Friday. Lodden amassed a 3.94 grade-point average as an electrical engineering major in the classroom. On the diamond, he tallied team watermarks in hits (83), runs (57), doubles (18), and walks (36) in 2016. This marks the first such honor in program history.
