Valparaiso University’s women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Loyola Invitational on Monday, posting the team’s best tournament score in program history. The Crusaders shot their second straight 374, matching the low round set on Sunday, to finish the 36-hole event at 748.
Valpo’s final total was 21 strokes better than any tournament this season for the Crusaders.
Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) matched the low round all-time by a Crusader, as well as her season low, shooting an 87 in the final round to finish second in the tournament for the Brown and Gold at 184.
Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) completed her best 36-hole tournament as a collegian, shooting an 89 in round two to finish at 177, placing 38th overall.
Kathleen Cooper (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) carded a 96 on Monday to finish the tournament at 187 while Sarah Al-Momar (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) shot 102 for a total of 200, also her best tournament of the season.
Western Illinois won the team title shooting 307 in round two for a two-day total of 625, 20 shots ahead of runner-up Loyola (Chicago). Lindsay Wandrey of Western Illinois was the individual medalist at 150 (76-74), one shot ahead of Butler’s Michele Nash.
Valparaiso will return to action on Saturday morning for the first round of the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio, hosted by Bowling Green State University. Play will begin at 8 a.m. CDT at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
