Skibinski Leads Team as Beacons Open Don Benbow Spring Invitational
Taylor Skibinski led the team on the first day of the Don Benbow event.

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team teed off the Don Benbow Spring Invitational on Monday, beginning a two-day, 36-hole event hosted by Butler at the par-72, 6297-yard Ardea Country Club course in Oldsmar, Fla. Taylor Skibinski (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City) posted the top score by a Beacon on the first day of the event.  

How It Happened

  • Skibinski’s 82 accounted for the team’s best Round-1 score. She is tied for 48th in a 98-golfer field.
  • Roslyn Leitner (Dundee, Ill. / Harry Jacobs) posted the squad’s second-best score with an 84. She was followed by Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) with an 87.
  • The team score of 341 is five shots out of 15th and nine out of 14th with 18 holes remaining. Western Michigan (302) leads the tournament, while Quinnipiac’s Leeyen Peralta owns the top spot on the player leaderboard.
  • Leitner, Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) and Katelyn McCoy (Chesterton, Ind. / Chesterton) all drained birdies for the Beacons.
