Keil Leads Valpo on Day 1 at Loyola

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team took to the links on Monday for the first two rounds of the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational, hosted by the Ramblers at the par-72, 6041-yard Merit Club in Libertyville, Ill. Junior Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) paced the team on Day 1 of the event.

How It Happened

  • Keil had the team’s best score in each of the two rounds, carding a 79 in both instances. She finished the day at 158, tied for 21st in the 12-team, 80-player gathering.
  • Valpo’s second-best performance came from Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit), who golfed a 163 over the two rounds. She carded an 81 in the opening round before rounding out the day with an 82 in Round 2, tied for 41st.
  • Rounding out the top trio of Beacons was Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills), who sits at t-46 after a 36-hole score of 164 with an 82 in each round.
  • As a team, Valpo finished the day at 663 with a 331 in Round 1 and a 332 in Round 2.
  • North Dakota State sits atop the team leaderboard at 603, while California Baptist’s Sofia Chabon is the top player at 143.

Inside the Round

  • Keil thrived on par-3 holes with a 3.25 average, while posting a 5.13 on par 5s.
  • Valpo had five birdies on the day, with Keil draining a pair.
  • Keil had 21 pars to lead the team.
