Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) shot a final round 76 to claim medalist honors, and Valparaiso bettered its first round total by 15 shots in the final round to win the Crusader Spring Invitational at ChampionsGate G.C. in Orlando, Fla. on Tuesday afternoon.
The Crusaders had a team score of 318 in the second round to finish with a two-round total of 651. Central Connecticut State was second with 665, and SIU-Edwardsville was third with 673.
Kleckner finished with a total of 156, to best CCSU’s Anna Ausanio by a shot. She made six birdies in the final round, including a birdie on the par-5 18th.
Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) finished third with a score of 161. Voigt shot 78 in the opening round and followed it up with an 83. Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) finished tied for fifth with a total of 166. Pfaender shot a 78 in the final round, which tied for the second-best score in that round.
A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) finished 10th (173), and Brianna Davy (Schereville, Ind./Lake Central) finished in a tie for 11th (174).
The Crusaders take three weeks off and return to action at the IPFW Spring Invitational at Pine Valley CC in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Sunday, March 31 and Monday, April 1.
