Crusader Women Close Out Golfweek Program Challenge
Sibil Gill posted the fifth-best 54-hole score in program history.

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team wrapped up the Golfweek Program Challenge Tuesday afternoon at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The club finished 17th at the three-day challenge.

Senior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) led the Crusaders on Tuesday shooting a 79 (+8). Landing just one stroke behind Gill was junior Angie Kim (Schaumberg, Ill./Fremd), who shot an 80 (+9) on the day.

Freshman Kylie Shoemake finished just two shots back of Gill with an 81 (+10) after recording a birdie on the 18th hole. Closing out the Crusaders’ squad was freshman Madison McCreary (+15) and junior Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) (+20).

Gill tied for 48th individually after shooting a combined 233 (+20) over the three-day tournament. The senior’s total of 233 for 54 holes was the fifth-best 54-hole score in program history, while her score in relation to par is tied for eighth-best in a 54-hole tournament.

Kim finished second for Valpo in South Carolina with a combined score of 243, while two shots further back was Shoemake (245). Placing fourth was Shrum with a 255, and rounding out the Crusaders’ five golfers was McCreary with a 258.

Nationally-ranked Campbell won the Golfweek Program Challenge shooting a combined score of 869 (+12). The Crusaders’ team score of 968, which placed the team 17th, is Valpo’s sixth-best score in a 54-hole tournament as a team in program history.

Valparaiso will be back in action on Saturday, September 19th when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Invitational.
