Freshmen Continue to Thrive on Final Day at Bradley
Anna Fay posted a team-low 77 on Sunday.

For the second consecutive day, a pair of freshmen sat atop the team leaderboard for the Valparaiso University women’s golf team on Sunday. Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills) provided the team’s top score of the day at the Bradley Coyote Creek Classic, a two-day, 54-hole event hosted by the Braves at the par-72, 6019-yard Coyote Creek Golf Club in Bartonville, Ill. Valpo’s second-best Round-3 performance came from fellow freshman Madison Keil (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland), who achieved the team’s top overall score for the tournament.

How It Happened

  • Fay enjoyed her second sub-80 round of the tournament, matching her Round-1 score with a 77 on Sunday. She finished the weekend at 236 (+20) to climb to t-41 on the overall leaderboard.
  • Keil ended up as part of a tie for 38th with her team-best 235 (+19). She stroked her second sub-80 round of the weekend with a 78 to close out the event on Sunday.
  • Freshman Katie Schreiner (Fenton, Mo. / Summit) accounted for one of the four eagles in the tournament. She eagled the Par-4 eighth hole in Thursday’s final round.
  • The remaining three Valpo golfers all carded 85s on Sunday.
  • The team matched its Round-2 score with a 325 in Round 3 to total 966 (+102) over the 54 holes. The Beacons placed 11th, just four strokes behind 10th-place Western Michigan while owning a healthy 17-stroke edge on 12th-place Chicago State.
  • Xavier won the team title at 871, while Emma McMyler of the Musketeers took individual medalist honors at 206.

Thoughts from Head Coach Jill McCoy

“Anna and Madison did a great job of keeping the ball in play today. I’m very happy with their scores and the progress they have made during their first fall season.”
