Men’s Golf Closes Out Fall Season on Tuesday

Valparaiso University men’s golf senior Mitchell Wittmann (Kaukauna, Wis. / Kaukauna) made sure the fall portion of his collegiate career ended on a high note with his efforts at this week’s Titans Motown Collegiate hosted by Detroit Mercy in Highland, Mich. Golfing as an individual, Wittmann once again had the best 18-hole score of any Valpo player in Tuesday’s Round 3, finishing in a tie for sixth overall in a 60-player field.

Toman Tops Team in Final Round at Drake

Valparaiso University men’s golf freshman Charlie Toman (Chardon, Ohio / Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) turned in the team’s top score in the third and final round of the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, moving into a tie with fellow freshman Garrett Willis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) for the 54-hole team lead at 224 (+11).


Valpo Tees Off Zach Johnson Invitational on Monday

The Valparaiso University men’s golf team was once again paced by a pair of freshmen on the first day of the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday. Garrett Willis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) led his team with a 150 (+8) through two rounds, while Charlie Toman (Chardon, Ohio / Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) followed closely with a 153 (+11).


Willis Leads Valpo on Final Day of Derek Dolenc Invitational

The youth of the Valparaiso University men’s golf team continued to thrive on Tuesday at the Derek Dolenc Invitational hosted by SIU Edwardsville in Madison, Ill. Freshman Garrett Willis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) garnered a Top 20 finish in the 96-player event, turning in a team-best 72 (+1) in Round 3 to finish at 216. As a team, Valpo placed ninth of 17.


Men’s Golf Ahead of Four MVC Foes at Derek Dolenc Invitational

The Valparaiso University men’s golf team is off to a promising start through two rounds of the Derek Dolenc Invitational, standing in eighth of 17 teams with an 18-hole score of 584. Only one Missouri Valley Conference team is ahead of Valpo in the standings (Bradley, third), while Valpo leads four conference foes – Missouri State, Drake, UNI and Loyola.


Valpo Completes Successful Crusader Collegiate

The Valparaiso University men’s golf team rounded out a successful home tournament on Tuesday with the final 18 holes of the Crusader Collegiate at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton. Valpo played host to a 13-team event that featured beautiful weather on both days. Valpo tied for fifth in the team standings, led by a strong showing from senior Mitchell Wittmann (Kaukauna, Wis. / Kaukauna), who tied for third.


Men's Golf Opens Crusader Collegiate at Sand Creek

The lone home tournament of the season for the Valparaiso University men’s golf team got underway on Monday at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton. All 10 Valpo golfers participated in the event, as Valpo featured an A and B team as part of a 13-team field. The top Valpo team sits in a tie for sixth place entering the final round.

A senior and a freshman tied for the team lead as three members of the Valparaiso University men’s golf team carded two under par or better in Sunday’s first round of the Golfweek Program Challenge at True Blue in Myrtle Beach, S.C. That helped the team finish the day six strokes under par and tied for sixth in a competitive 14-team field. Valpo’s 18-hole score of 282 was the second-best single-round performance in program history and the best since 2014.
