"Steve Cook was a three-time All-American in the 120 high hurdles.

In 1965, he captured the national championship in the 120 high hurdles at the NCAA Division II Championships in Long Beach, Calif. He nearly won two more titles, finishing runner-up in 1964 and 1966 in the event. He was named the Indiana Collegiate Conference Track Athlete of the Year in 1965.

Cook also was a member of the basketball program all four years and played on the team that defeated Purdue in 1965. In addition to receiving honorable mention All-America honors in basketball, Cook was voted Valpo Athlete of the Year 1964-1965 and 1965-1966.
