"A versatile athlete, Curtis excelled as both a basketball and baseball player at Valpo.

A three-year varsity basketball player, Curtis was a key member of a trio of squads that compiled a 52-30 record. Curtis helped the Gene Bartow-led teams of 1965-66 and 1966-67 advance to the NCAA College Division Midwest Regional and NCAA National Quarterfinals, respectively. As a senior in 1966-67, he averaged 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds, while earning First Team All-Indiana Collegiate Conference and being selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The 1965-66 squad defeated Purdue and concluded the campaign by finishing runners-up in the Midwest Regional.

As a three-year baseball standout, Curtis earned Second Team All-American honors in 1966 after recording a .355 batting average. In ICC competition, the third baseman led the league in batting (.447) and RBIs, and did not commit an error. During his career, Curtis was the recipient of Valpo's Varsity Club Award for Most Outstanding Athlete. In 1966, he became the first underclassman to receive the Valpo Sportsmanship Award.

A 1967 graduate of Valpo, Curtis went on to earn an MBA from the University of New Mexico in 1970. For the last 10 years, Curtis has been a managing director for John Hancock Advisors in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
