An outstanding two-sport athlete, Dave Lass was a catalyst of several championship football and baseball teams at Valpo in the 1960s.

A three-year starting quarterback, Lass led the Crusaders to the 1964 Indiana Collegiate Conference Championship. In 1963, he was selected the ICC's Most Valuable Back after finishing second in the nation (NCAA College Division) in passing yardage and fourth nationally in total yards. Lass earned First Team All-ICC honors in 1963 and 1964. Despite graduating almost 38 years ago, he still ranks third on Valpo's total offense list (4,416 yards) and third in passing yardage (4,061). He also shares the single-game school record for touchdown passes with five (vs. Ball State, 1963).

As a baseball player, he was a key component on Valpo's ICC Championship teams in 1963 and 1964. A shortstop, he was named First Team All-ICC in 1963.

A 1965 Valpo graduate, Lass earned a J.D. at Wayne State (Mich.) University in 1968. Lass has been a district court judge in Colorado's 5th Judicial District since 1996. He was a county court judge in Summit County, Colorado from 1986-96, a municipal court judge in Frisco, Colorado from 1984-96 and an attorney from 1968-86.
