Softball Drops Doubleheader to Murray State
The Valpo softball team kicked off the next-to-last weekend of regular season play with a doubleheader against visiting Murray State at the Valpo Softball Complex Saturday, falling to the Racers by final scores of 5-0 and 8-2. Freshman Natalie Bush (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) continued her recent hot streak at the plate with a trio of extra-base hits over the two games.

The Valpo softball team rallied from a four-run deficit thanks to long balls from freshman Natalie Bush (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and senior Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South), but eventually fell in walk-off fashion to host Missouri State, 5-4.

Beacons Drop Twinbill to Eastern Illinois
Stepping out of MVC play for the first time in over five weeks, the Valpo softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at the Valpo Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon to an Eastern Illinois squad which came in atop the OVC standings. The visiting Panthers claimed game one by a 5-1 final and took game two, 9-2.

While last week brought five games in six days for the Valpo softball team, the Beacons will top that this week with five games in five days. Valpo takes the field at home for a nonconference doubleheader against Eastern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon before making the long bus ride to Springfield, Mo. for a three-game MVC weekend series at Missouri State.

Valpo softball pitcher Sydney McDermott (Stout, Ohio/Portsmouth West) had yet another strong outing in the circle in an MVC contest, carrying a shutout through the regulation seven innings, but the Beacon were unable to get to UIC in that time either and eventually fell 2-1 to the Flames in nine innings.

Softball Snaps Belmont’s Winning Streak in Saturday Twinbill Split
Facing a Belmont squad riding an eight-game winning streak which ranked among the nation’s longest and which entered the Valpo Softball Complex in second place in the MVC standings, the Valpo softball team wasted no time jumping on the Bruins in the opener, pushing across four runs in the first two innings — tallies which were more than enough in an eventual 4-2 win. Belmont earned a split of the doubleheader with a 12-1 win in the nightcap.

Johnson Delivers Walk-Off Winner, Lifts Softball Over Bradley to Close Series
Valpo softball senior Alexis Johnson (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) made sure a long day at the ballpark would end with an on-field celebration, connecting on a walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th inning of Saturday’s nightcap to give the Beacons a 3-2 win over Bradley. It was the second 10-inning game of the day at the Valpo Softball Complex, as the visiting Braves emerged victorious in a pitcher’s duel in the opener, 3-0.

The Valpo softball team got off to a strong start in its home opener against Bradley in MVC action Friday afternoon, as a leadoff home run from senior Alexis Johnson (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) sparked a three-run first inning, but the visiting Braves used a big fifth inning to turn the tide in their favor as the Beacons fell by a 7-4 final.

The Valpo softball team exploded offensively on Sunday morning, putting 22 runners on base in just five innings in a 12-4 run-rule victory over Bowling Green to kick off its final day of action at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. The Beacons’ bats were stymied by IU All-American Brianna Copeland in the tournament finale, as Valpo fell 10-0 to the hosts.

The Valpo softball team enjoyed a strong opening day at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday. In their tournament opener, the Beacons were tied with host Indiana into the bottom of the sixth before the Hoosiers earned an 8-6 victory. Unfazed, Valpo bounced back immediately, taking down Bowling Green by a 5-3 final.

Weather wreaked havoc on Saturday’s action for the Valpo softball team at the Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas, resulting in a long day at the ballpark for the Beacons. A schedule reshuffle resulted in Valpo facing Lehigh twice on Saturday, with the Beacons falling 11-0 in game one and 7-0 in game two.
