Germann Named CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American
Valpo cross country and track & field graduated senior Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) earned elite recognition Thursday for her prowess in the classroom and in competition during her career in the Brown and Gold, as she was named a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American. She is the 34th Academic All-American in Valpo Athletics history.

Valparaiso University head cross country coach Mike Straubel announced 10 additions to his program on Wednesday as five newcomers will join the men’s team and five others have signed with the women’s squad for the 2020 cross country season.

Three Valpo Runners Enter Record Book at Regional
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in their final race of the 2019 campaign Friday in Madison, Wis. at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich./ Monroe St. Mary), Jack Worman (Hanover Parks, Ill./ Hoffman Estates) and Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R./ American Military Academy) joined Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University) on the list of the program’s best 10K times.

Bruno, Paoletti Earn All-Conference Honors at MVC Championship
The Missouri Valley Conference men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Valparaiso on Saturday for the MVC Championship. Nine men’s teams and 10 women’s teams faced chilly temperatures and a muddy course to compete for the conference title at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. The Valpo men were led by Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University) and Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich./ Monroe St. Mary), both of whom earned all-conference recognition. As a team, the Valpo men turned in their first Top 5 finish in the team standings at a conference meet since 2007, continuing a strong season for head coach Mike Straubel’s team.

Valpo Poised for Conference Meet after Strong Showing in Peoria
The Valparaiso University men and women’s cross country teams headed to Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. for the annual Pink Classic on Friday. Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill. / University) and Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Finneytown) led their squads in the final push before the conference championships. In addition, Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe St. Mary) cracked the program’s all-time Top 5 in the 8K.

Valpo Enjoys Strong Showing at Joe Piane Invitational
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Notre Dame for the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday. The men’s team ran a five-mile race, while the women’s team competed in a 5K race. The top three finishers on the men’s team, Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University), Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R./ American Military Academy) and Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich./ Monroe St. Mary) all set personal bests in the race and finished in the top third of their race.

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled Terre Haute for the John McNichols Invitational, hosted by Indiana State on Saturday. The squads were led by seniors Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./ University) and Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Finneytown).

Cross Country Begins Season with Annual Crusader Open
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off their seasons on Friday with the 31st running of the Crusader Open at Sunset Hill Farm Country Park. Senior Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) and redshirt sophomore Jack Worman (Hanover Parks, Ill./Hoffman Estates) led the team in their respective races.
