Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Spring Trip with Defeat at No. 12 Texas A&M
The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team incurred a 6-1 setback in its final match prior to the start of Summit League action on Sunday in College Station, Texas. The match was Valpo’s second against a nationally-ranked opponent in a four-match span, wrapping up the team’s spring break journey to The Lone Star State.

The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team remained in Waco, Texas for a two-match day Saturday against Abilene Christian and Prairie View A&M. The Brown & Gold pulled off stellar 5-2 and 6-1 victories against the two schools, respectively.

Daugherty Celebrated Prior to Match at Baylor
Longtime Valparaiso University head men’s tennis coach Jim Daugherty was recognized prior to Wednesday’s match at No. 27 Baylor in Waco, Texas. Players from both teams wore commemorative Valpo vs. Baylor shirts with the number “35” on the back to signify the length of Daugherty’s tenure. Baylor associate head coach Michael Woodson played and coached at Valpo under Daugherty, who will retire at season’s end.

Singles Success Propels Valpo to Tight Win Over Ball State
The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team bounced back from dropping the doubles point to win a close 4-3 decision over Ball State on Friday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. Freshman Oscar Mendoza (Guayaquil, Ecuador / Interamerican Academy) came through with the biggest win of the day, climbing from behind to prevail at No. 5 singles, clinching the victory for his team. The win was also significant as it allowed Valpo head coach Jim Daugherty to defeat his alma mater.

The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team pulled out a climactic victory on Saturday, edging visiting Cleveland State 4-3 at the Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team made it back-to-back victories by garnering a 5-2 triumph over Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. The team gained the doubles point and won three of the first four singles matches to finish to secure the triumph in efficient fashion, polishing off a 2-0 weekend that started with a win at Chicago State on Friday.

Western Michigan Nips Valpo in Men’s Tennis
For the second consecutive day, the Valparaiso University men’s tennis team played a competitive match against a talented opponent, but once again the squad came up just shy with a 4-3 defeat, this time to Western Michigan at the Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valpo. The Broncos won 18 matches and went undefeated in the Mid-American Conference a year ago, reaching the NCAA Tournament.

Senior Gabriel Carvajal (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Broward Virtual School [Florida Atlantic]) extended his winning streak on Friday by capturing his third straight ITA Midwest Regional qualifying draw victory in an event hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
