The team took to the diamond in what proved to be a special season for the Brown and Gold.  Led by head coach Emory G. Bauer, Valpo went 17-5 overall and posted a perfect 12-0 mark in the Indiana Collegiate Conference to capture the league crown.

After starting the season with ten straight victories, the team, which had four First Team All-ICC and four Second Team All-ICC selections on it, earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Region Four Tournament.  The Crusaders played valiantly in both games, dropping its opening game 6-4 against the University of Minnesota in 11 innings and then fell 1-0 to Ohio University in the second game.
