Crusaders End Season with Loss to Cleveland State

The Valparaiso women’s tennis team played Horizon League leader Cleveland State on Saturday morning. The match, which was the final regular season match for both teams, carried plenty of significance for the final league standings, as Cleveland State needed to win in order clinch the regular season title. The Crusaders looked to play spoiler, but the Vikings were able to prevail with a 7-0 win, ending Valparaiso’s season.


Penguins Down Crusaders in HL Match

The Crusader women’s tennis team dropped their Horizon League match against Youngstown State on Friday, 7-0 at the Valpo Tennis Complex.


Crusaders Drop Nonleague Match at Chicago State

The Valparaiso women’s tennis team played its last nonleague match of the season on Monday afternoon, falling to Chicago State 7-0 at the HF Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill. The No.3 doubles pairing of Megan Barthels and Paige Heuer won the lone contest of the match for the Crusaders.


Grizzlies Defeat Crusaders in HL Match

The Crusader women were unable to right the ship on Sunday afternoon, falling to Oakland 6-1 in an important Horizon League match. Freshman Paige Heuer won Valparaiso its only point of the day with a win in No.3 singles. Heuer leads the team in singles victories with six on the season.


Crusader Women Drop HL Match at Detroit

In their first of three consecutive road matches, the Crusader women fell to Horizon League foe Detroit by a score of 6-1. Paige Heuer took two matches in both the first and second set of the No.3 singles contest, but was unable to capture the point for the Crusaders.


Crusader Women Fall to Unbeaten Panthers

After winning their first Horizon League match in program history the night before, the Crusader women’s tennis team was unable to replicate the same play necessary to top an unbeaten Milwaukee team. The Panthers cruised to a 7-0 victory over Crusaders, who were playing their second match of a back-to-back.


Crusader Women End Drought, Defeat Green Bay

The Crusader women’s tennis team made history Saturday night by defeating host Green Bay 5-2 for its first Horizon League victory in program history. Although there were plenty of impressive performances seen in the match, Megan Barthels and Paige Heuer provided the Crusaders with crucial victories at No.3 doubles and No.3 and No.4 singles.


Crusader Women Drop HL Match to Wright State

In its second Horizon League matchup in as many matches, Valparaiso welcomed Wright State to the Courts of NWI on Saturday morning. The visiting Raiders were able to get the best of the Crusaders on the day, taking all seven points in the match to take away an important Horizon League victory.


Crusaders Fall to UIC in HL Opener

In their first Horizon League match of the season, the Crusaders were unable to claim a point against preseason favorite UIC. The Flames swept both the doubles and singles competitions, winning the match 7-0.


Crusaders Drop Two on Final Day of Spring Trip

The Crusader women dropped the final two matches of their spring trip on Friday, falling 7-0 to Providence in the morning, and 6-1 to Augustana in the afternoon. Freshman Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) led the Crusaders with a win in No.3 singles against Augustana.

The Crusader women’s tennis team lost the opening game of its Puerto Rico trip on Thursday morning, falling 7-0 to Seton Hall. Despite showing tough play in No.2 and No.3 singles, the Crusaders were unable to take a point from the Big East school.

Broncs Top Crusaders 6-1

The Crusader women met the Broncs on Friday afternoon at the Courts of NWI for the first match of the weekend. In what would end up being a 6-1 defeat for the Crusaders, Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) would win her second straight match in No.3 singles to capture Valparaiso’s lone point of the match.


Crusader Women Fall to South Dakota State on Sunday

On Sunday morning, the Crusader women played South Dakota State in their second match of a four game home-stand. The Jackrabbits swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches to win the match. Despite the loss, Valparaiso saw inspired play from Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) in No.3 singles. Heuer claimed the lone Crusader victory of the day.


Crusaders Drop 4-2 Decision to Dayton

Playing the first match in their four game home-stand, the Crusader women dropped a hard fault 4-2 decision to Dayton on Sunday morning. In the loss, Kristin Zakiewicz and Kaitlyn Hamel would win their first No.1 doubles match of the young season.


Utah State Defeats Crusaders on Sunday

The Crusaders met Utah State for an early morning match on Sunday. Playing at a neutral site, the Aggies were able to defeat the Crusaders 7-0. Despite the team loss, the No.2 doubles pairing of Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) continued their solid play, winning their second consecutive match.


Despite Solid Start, Crusaders Fall to Coyotes

In the second match of their two-game home-stand, the Crusader women welcomed South Dakota to the Courts of NWI. Despite solid play early on from Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) in No.2 doubles, the Crusaders would fall to the Coyotes in a 7-0 decision.


Women's Tennis Drops Home Opener Against Western Michigan

After their match at Ball State on Friday, the Crusader women’s tennis team returned home Saturday for an evening match-up against Western Michigan. Despite a solid effort from the Crusaders, the Broncos were able to defeat the Crusaders in a 7-0 decision.


Women's Tennis Opens 2014 Campaign at Ball State

The Crusader women opened their 2014 campaign on Friday with a match on the road at Ball State. The Cardinals were able to top the Crusaders on the day, winning by a 7-0 decision.

Horizon League Announces Women's Preseason Tennis Poll

The Crusader's women's tennis team has been picked to finish ninth in Horizon League play, according to the annual preseason tennis poll which was released on Monday by the Horizon League. The Crusader women received nine points in the polling.

Crusader Women Fall at Wayne State

The women’s tennis team traveled to Wayne State University on Monday for the team’s third contest of the fall campaign. The Crusaders were unable to repeat their previous performance, as the team fell 8-1 at the home complex of the Warriors.


Crusader Women Defeat Robert Morris (Ill.) in Home Opener

In the fall home opener, Valpo was able to defeat Robert Morris (Ill.) in convincing fashion; taking a 5-2 decision over the visiting Eagles. The Crusaders swept the doubles competition and won four of six singles matches.


Valpo Women’s Tennis Opened the 2013 Fall Schedule at Ball State

The Valparaiso women’s tennis team opened its 2013 fall schedule at the Ball State Invitational on Friday. The Invitational was held at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. Twelve schools, including Valparaiso, sent participants to the invitational. Arkansas State, Butler, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, IUPUI, Miami (Ohio) University, Notre Dame, and Wright State all had participants at the event.


Women's Tennis Set to Open Fall Play

The Crusader women are set to open their fall season this weekend at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie Ind. The invitational begins on Friday and will wrap up on Sunday.


Valparaiso Announces Fall Golf, Tennis Schedules

The Valparaiso men’s and women’s golf teams will play over six weekends apiece this fall, while the men’s tennis team will compete four times and the women’s tennis team three times as the Crusaders released fall 2013 schedules for all four sports Friday afternoon.
