Valpo Tennis Hosts Senior Day During Season Finale
The Valparaiso University tennis team recognized Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy), Amanda Tabanera (Valencia, Calif. / Valencia), Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake), Eleanor Chapman (East Sussex, England / Eastbourne College [UT Martin / Lipscomb]) and Allison McConnell (Westland, Mich. / Churchill) prior to Saturday’s Senior Day match against Missouri State, which was held outdoors at the Valpo Tennis Complex. The visiting Bears prevailed 4-2 to bring the season to an end for the Beacons.

Bertino, Chapman Earn Victories Over Illinois State
The Valparaiso University tennis team boasted victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, but visiting Illinois State earned a 5-2 victory over the host Beacons in a match that took place outdoors at the Valpo Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon. Mia Bertino (Lockport, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) and Eleanor Chapman (East Sussex, England / Eastbourne College [UT Martin / Lipscomb]) both picked up wins in their singles matches against the Redbirds, who remained undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play by improving to 7-0.

Jhaveri Rallies for Dramatic Victory, Helps Valpo Edge Bradley
As the Valparaiso University tennis team played the latest in a season filled with tight matches, Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) was ready for the moment. The senior rallied from down 2-5 to force a set tiebreak in the third set, and eventually won a lengthy tiebreak to clinch the team victory on Friday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana.

A season of cliffhanging matches continued for the Valparaiso University tennis team on Saturday afternoon as the Beacons were on the wrong end of a 4-3 score against UNI in a road match that occurred in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Valpo garnered three singles wins and one doubles victory in a match that came down to the wire.

Bertino, Doubles Tandems Earn Wins Over UIC
The Valparaiso University tennis team dropped Sunday’s match 5-2 to UIC at The Courts of Northwest Indiana, but the match came down to the wire and was closer than the 5-2 final would indicate. The Flames won on five of the six singles courts, but three of those UIC victories and four singles matches in total required a third set.

Tennis Tops Milwaukee on Saturday
The Valparaiso University tennis team competed in yet another tight match on Saturday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana, battling back after dropping the doubles point to win on four of the six singles courts and beat visiting Milwaukee by a 4-3 score in the final nonleague match of the season. The Beacons showed their depth by earning the win despite the majority of the team playing up a spot in the singles lineup due to an injury.

Valpo Edged by MVC Preseason Favorite Belmont
The Valparaiso University tennis team gave preseason Missouri Valley Conference favorite Belmont a tight battle on Sunday, but the host Bruins pulled out a 4-3 victory in Nashville, Tenn. to round out the opening weekend of league action. The two teams split the six singles matches after the Bruins earned a doubles point that proved pivotal.

Senior Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) and freshman Moira Silva (Houston, Texas / Houston Tennis Academy) teamed up for a conference-opening victory at No. 1 doubles, while both players were also triumphant in their matches at the top of the singles lineup as the Valparaiso University tennis team started Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday at Murray State. The Racers captured the team win, taking the match 5-2 at the indoor Kenlake Tennis Center in Hardin, Ky.

The Valparaiso University tennis team returned to the win column on Wednesday afternoon, besting South Dakota 5-2 to capture its sixth win in the last seven matches and improve to 9-2 overall. The Valparaiso University tennis team faced an early deficit after dropping the doubles point on Saturday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana, but the Beacons rallied from behind to beat SIUE 4-3 by winning four of the six singles matches. Fifth-year senior Eleanor Chapman (East Sussex, England / Eastbourne College [UT Martin / Lipscomb]) was victorious in her program singles debut and Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) started the spring slate on a winning note as the Valparaiso University tennis team began the 2023 portion of the season on Saturday. Host Cleveland State prevailed 5-2 at Medical Mutual Tennis Center in Cleveland. The match was tightly contested with three singles matches going to a third set.

The volleyball team was in attendance to cheer on the tennis squad during the day, then head coach Bob Modesto’s team returned the favor on Friday evening by taking in the Valpo volleyball match at Illinois State.
