The Valparaiso University tennis program and head coach Bob Modesto have announced the addition of three newcomers to the program for the 2023-2024 academic and athletic year. Valpo tennis will welcome Sydney Stone, Jolene Fernandes and Lillian Kelly.

Bertino, Chapman Earn Victories Over Illinois State

The Valparaiso University tennis team boasted victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, but visiting Illinois State earned a 5-2 victory over the host Beacons in a match that took place outdoors at the Valpo Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon. Mia Bertino (Lockport, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) and Eleanor Chapman (East Sussex, England / Eastbourne College [UT Martin / Lipscomb]) both picked up wins in their singles matches against the Redbirds, who remained undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play by improving to 7-0.


Jhaveri Rallies for Dramatic Victory, Helps Valpo Edge Bradley

As the Valparaiso University tennis team played the latest in a season filled with tight matches, Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) was ready for the moment. The senior rallied from down 2-5 to force a set tiebreak in the third set, and eventually won a lengthy tiebreak to clinch the team victory on Friday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana.

The Valparaiso University tennis team closed out the road portion of the season with a 7-0 setback to Drake on Sunday in Des Moines, Iowa. All three remaining regular-season matches will take place at home.

The Valparaiso University tennis team gave preseason Missouri Valley Conference favorite Belmont a tight battle on Sunday, but the host Bruins pulled out a 4-3 victory in Nashville, Tenn. to round out the opening weekend of league action. The two teams split the six singles matches after the Bruins earned a doubles point that proved pivotal.
