Women's Tennis, Men's Golf Honored with Raise Your Sights Award
The Raise Your Sights award winners have been announced for the 2016-17 season. The honor is given annually to the best sport teams academically and is based on combined grade point average (GPA) from the current academic year. The award recognizes the top academic male and female team from each Horizon League institution.

Valparaiso University to Join Missouri Valley Conference
Valparaiso University president Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D., announced today that the University has accepted an invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference on July 1, 2017. The Crusaders will begin competing for MVC championships in the 2017–2018 academic year.

Women’s Tennis Honors Seniors as Season Ends Sunday
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team’s season came to a close on Sunday with a 5-2 loss to Detroit Mercy at the Valpo Tennis Complex. It may not be reflected in the form of victories, but the Crusaders (2-18, 1-8 Horizon) showed significant signs of improvement down the stretch, winning at least two matches in each of their last five. Seniors Paige Heuer, Kathleen Hebble and Morgan Paras all participated in the final matches of their collegiate careers on Sunday.

Upset Bid Falls Just Shy Despite Strong Showing from Crusaders
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team gave Oakland everything it could handle on Saturday afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex, but the chance to knock off the Grizzlies came up short in a 4-3 defeat. The Crusaders have made progress in recent matches, scoring two team points or more in each of their last four.

Three Crusaders Earn Places on All-Academic Teams
The Valparaiso University tennis programs were well represented as the Horizon League announced its men’s and women’s all-academic teams on Friday. Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis. / Fond du Lac) have both notched places on the men’s all-academic team, while Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind. / Silver Creek) achieved a spot on the women’s all-academic team.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team picked up wins at two singles spots on Tuesday at the Valpo Tennis Complex, but couldn’t corral the team triumph in a 5-2 loss to the Cougars of Chicago State. Meg Modesto and Randi Wind provided the wins for the Crusaders.

Sysouvanh, Wind with Singles Victories in Loss to Milwaukee
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team picked up two singles victories and one doubles triumph in a 5-2 loss to Milwaukee at the Valpo Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders hadn’t won more than one singles match in any of their first five Horizon League contests, but have now picked up multiple singles wins in back-to-back league matches.

Modesto Comes Through with Thrilling Win, Propels Valpo to First Horizon League Victory
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team flashed a flair for the dramatic on Friday afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex, starting the holiday weekend with a heart-pounding 4-3 victory over Green Bay. The match came down to No. 3 singles, where Meg Modesto picked up Valpo’s most memorable victory of the season to clinch the team win.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback on Saturday at the hands of the Wright State Raiders in Miamisburg, Ohio. The most competitive match of the day came at No. 3 singles, as Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) took Wright State’s Haily Morgan to three sets.

Women’s Tennis Falls to Flames on Saturday
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team dropped Saturday’s match to UIC 7-0 at the Courts of Northwest Indiana. The Crusaders (1-12, 0-3 Horizon) have faced a strong schedule to open Horizon League play. Their first three league matches have been against the teams picked to finish first through third. UIC was projected as the second-place team and received four first-place votes.

Crusaders Fall to Vikings on Sunday
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback to Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon at Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. The host Vikings climbed to .500 at 8-8 and boosted their Horizon League record to 2-0, while the Crusaders dropped to 1-11, 0-2 in league play.

Women’s Tennis Drops League Opener
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team forced a pair of three-set matches, but was unable to secure a team point in Saturday’s 7-0 loss to Youngstown State at the Boardman Tennis Center. The match marked the start of Horizon League play as the Crusaders took the court for the first time after a two-week layoff. The Penguins are the preseason favorite to win the league.

Crusaders Drop Tight Match on Second Day in California
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team continued its spring break trip on a picturesque day at the University of California Riverside on Saturday afternoon. The two teams played under cloudless blue skies with temperatures soaring into the 90s, a mountain backdrop, a light breeze and bright sunshine overhead. The final score was the only thing less than stellar on an otherwise perfect day in the Golden State as Valpo fell 5-2 in a tightly-contested match.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis program has announced the additions of Jelena Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove) and Claire Czerwonka (Saint Joseph Catholic Academy / Kenosha Wis.) for the 2017-18 season. Both are four-star recruits, according to tennisrecruiting.net, and have signed their National Letters of Intent to play for the Crusaders.
