Valparaiso University to Join Missouri Valley Conference


Valparaiso University president Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D., announced today that the University has accepted an invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference on July 1, 2017. The Crusaders will begin competing for MVC championships in the 2017–2018 academic year.


Men Finish Fifth, Women in Seventh at League Championships


The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded the 2017 Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Sunday. The men finished in fifth place with 49 points and the women ended in eighth with 24 points. Senior Liz Owen received the top honor over the weekend by earning a first-place nod in the 1,500m race.


Pole Vault Highlights Second Day of Outdoor Championships


The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in Day 2 of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships at Youngstown State University on Saturday. The men have 21 points and the women have tallied nine points after two days of competing. The men scored nine of their points in the pole vault.

On a cold, rainy and windy day, the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted their fourth home meet in school history at the Warren G. Hoger Track. The men ended up with 180 points, receiving their first team victory this season. The women finished in second with 107 total points.

Bruno, Owen Lead Valpo on Final Day of Pacesetter Invite


The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the Pacesetter Invite with the men coming in fourth with 58 points and the women receiving sixth with 23 points. Sophomore Alexander Bruno earned the men’s top finish, capturing second place in the 1,500m, senior Liz Owen had the same result in the same event.

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in Day 1 at the Pacesetter Invite hosted by Indiana State on Friday. The men left the first day of competition in fourth with 11 points, while the women are fifth with seven points. Jack Mader led all Crusader athletes with a second-place result in the 5,000m race.


McKissick Earns Horizon League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week


The Horizon League announced on Wednesday that Valparaiso University sophomore Drew McKissick Jr. (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has been selected as the league’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.


Valpo Competes at Benedictine University Relays


The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams participated in a two-day meet at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. on Friday and Saturday. The men earned 10th of 28 teams with 45 points, and the women finished in 15th with 19 points. Junior Ben Zibricky (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) and senior Liz Owen (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) tabbed first-place results for the Crusaders, both in the 1,500m run.


Five Top Finishes Lead Valpo at DePauw Invitational


The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams stayed in Indiana as they traveled to Greencastle for the DePauw Invitational on Saturday. The men’s team garnered four first-place marks, three coming in field events, while the women tallied one, which also came in a field event. The Crusader men finished in third with 96 points and the women ended the invitational in sixth with 46 points.


Owen Leads Valpo with Pair of Top 2 Finishes at Big Blue Classic


The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams both increased their point totals from a day ago on the last day of the Big Blue Classic at Eastern Illinois University on Saturday. The men went home with 26 team points for a seventh-place result and the women received 22 and finished ninth. Senior Liz Owen added first and second-place marks to her long list of career achievements as a Crusader runner, earning 18 points for the team.

Of the 17 schools participating in the event, the men are in eighth with two points and the women enter Saturday seeking their first team point.

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field competed at the Fort Wayne Duals Saturday. The Crusader men defeated Butler, Detroit and IUPUI to finish the day with a perfect 3-0 record, while the women beat Butler and IUPUI. The Valpo men had four first-place finishes in field events and the women posted one top finish on the track.

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams were back in action indoors Friday evening after the holiday break, traveling to Grand Valley State University for the Bob Eubanks Open. The men took home third place, while the women came away with a sixth-place performance.

The indoor season begins this Friday, Dec. 2 at the University of Notre Dame for the Blue and Gold Invitational, while the Crusaders will host a home meet at the Warren G. Hoger Track on campus for the third straight year on April 29.
