Crusaders Announce Addition of Gueye for 2013-2014 Season
Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that 7-0 center Moussa Gueye (Thies, Senegal/Alabama/Lake Land [Ill.] College) will join the Crusader program for the 2013-2014 season. Gueye graduated from Alabama this spring and will be immediately eligible at Valpo for his final season of eligibility.

For the second straight year, Valparaiso seniors Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) and Kevin Van Wijk (Hoofddorp, Netherlands/Katholieke Scholengemeenschap Hoofddorp) have earned All-District 12 honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Broekhoff was a First Team selection this season after earning Second Team accolades last year, while Van Wijk repeated as a Second Team honoree.

Crusaders’ Season Ends in NCAA Tournament
The Valparaiso men’s basketball team was even with third-seeded Michigan State through nearly nine minutes of their Second Round game in the Midwest Region of the 2013 NCAA Tournament Thursday in Auburn Hills, Mich., but the Spartans went on a 24-4 run to pull away as the Crusaders eventually fell by a final score of 65-54. The loss ends the Crusaders’ season at 26-8 and ends the careers of six Valpo seniors.

Valparaiso hosts a four-team pod to close out the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Crusaders will take on Chicago State Friday at 7 p.m., with Bethune-Cookman and Nebraska-Omaha meeting at 4:30 p.m. Then, on Saturday, the losers of Friday’s games will match up at 4:30 p.m. and the winners will meet for the title at 7 p.m.

The Valparaiso men’s basketball team earned their first road win of the season with a thrilling 88-83 overtime win Sunday afternoon against Kent State in Kent, Ohio. The Valparaiso men’s basketball team has inked four players to National Letters of Intent since the start of the early signing period on Wednesday, head coach Bryce Drew announced Thursday afternoon. Jubril Adekoya, Nick Davidson, Lexus Williams and Clay Yeo have all signed on the dotted line and will join the Crusaders as freshmen in the fall of 2013. Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that Tommy Kurth (Osceola, Ind./Penn) has been deemed medically unable to compete and will no longer be able to play for the Crusaders. Kurth will remain on scholarship to complete his degree from Valparaiso, but will not count against the program’s scholarship limit.
