Valpo Football Kicks Off PFL Play at Drake

After facing a challenging nonconference schedule, the Valparaiso University football team will kick off Pioneer Football League play this week as the team hits the road for the third time in the first four weeks of the season. The Beacons will visit Drake on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa with hopes of kicking off PFL play in winning fashion.

Valpo Pushes Ivy League Foe Dartmouth to Brink in Home Opener

The Valparaiso University football team gave defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth nearly everything it could handle on Saturday afternoon at Brown Field, but the visiting Big Green escaped Northwest Indiana with a 28-18 victory over the Beacons. The Valpo defense recorded two safeties and forced three turnovers, while running back Robert Washington (Huntersville, N.C. / East Gaston [Old Dominion]) accrued 117 rushing yards on 24 carries to pace the offense. The solid showing came in front of an electric audience of 3,856 including an enthusiastic Valpo student section that was filled to the brim in the first home game without capacity limitations since the end of the 2019 season.

Football to Open Home Slate vs. Dartmouth

For the first time since the 2019 season, the Valparaiso University football team will welcome spectators with no capacity limitations on Saturday as Dartmouth visits Brown Field for the Fall 2021 home opener. After playing three home games with limited spectators during the Spring 2021 season, the Beacons will welcome fans back to Brown Field this week with a home game against a high-caliber, Ivy League opponent. Visiting Dartmouth will be playing its first game since 2019. Saturday will be Valpo’s final tune-up before starting Pioneer Football League action on Sept. 25 at Drake.

Sophomore wide receiver Chuck Maxwell (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Christian Academy) was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt sophomore defensive back Austin Chilton (Windermere, Fla. / West Orange) received Defensive Player of the Week honors and redshirt sophomore Matt Ross (Naperville, Ill. / Montini Catholic [Eastern Illinois]) was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week.


Valpo Football Falls in Season Opener

The Valparaiso University football team outscored Indiana Wesleyan 10-7 over the final three quarters on Saturday evening at Wildcat Stadium in Marion, Ind., but an early deficit proved to be the difference as the hosts prevailed 28-10. Chuck Maxwell (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Christian Academy) was a bright spot for the Valpo offense, while Jaxon Peifer (Normal, Ill. / Normal Community) boasted a team-high 14 tackles.

The Valparaiso University football team has announced five captains for the Fall 2021 season. Fifth-year senior long snapper / running back Doug Haugh (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands Senior), senior wide receiver Ollie Reese (Franklin, Tenn. / Battle Ground), senior running back Robert Washington (Huntersville, N.C. / East Gaston [Old Dominion]), redshirt sophomore linebacker Evan Annis (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) and fifth-year senior Nathan Orlandini (Columbus, Ohio / Upper Arlington) have been elected team captains by their peers.


Valpo Football to Kick Off Season at Indiana Wesleyan

The Valparaiso University football team will kick off the Fall 2021 season on Saturday with an instate battle against Indiana Wesleyan in Marion. Head coach Landon Fox’s team will look to build on a strong Spring 2021 season that saw the program finish with its best winning percentage since 2003 and match its best winning percentage since 1999.
